The city of Benevento is known as “La Città delle Streghe” or “The City of Witches”. The history of the city and the surrounding mountains goes back to ancient times and legends of the gatherings of witches around the famous “noce” or walnut tree of Benevento.

Ritual Herbalism: Wildcrafting & Medicine Making Immersion Part One: Leaf, Flowers and Stems
Join us for this mid Spring weekend of wild abundance as we dive deeply into the Art, Science & Spirit of Herbalism. We will spend this incredible weekend deeply immersed in the abundance of wild plants as well as cultivated herbs that can easily be found (and grown) throughout the Appalachian mountains.
We will focus on improving proper plant identification skills, ethical wildcrafting & foraging techniques and learn the craft of magical medicine making together. We will gather herbs from the landscape and create a plethora of herbal medicines. Folks will receive both new skills and plenty of recipes and remedies to take home.
Throughout this weekend immersion will honor the craft of intuitive & ritual herbalism while learning how to pair these skills to make the most potent forms of herbal infusion and decoctions (medicinal teas) with both fresh and dried plants. We will co-create botanical tonics meant to fortify our systems throughout the seasons. And produce potent medicinally infused herbal oils to be used for the body as well as the Spirit.
Ritual Herbalism: Wildcrafting & Medicine Making Immersion Part 2: Roots, Berries and Seeds
Join us for the second weekend of wild abundance as we continue upon the path of honoring the Art, Science & Spirit of Herbalism. We will spend this pre-autumn equinox weekend deeply immersed in the abundance of native and wild plants that have come into fruition throughout the growing season.
We will continue to focus on proper plant identification skills, as the plants are at their peak for the year. Stewardship and ethical wildcrafting & foraging techniques will be fortified, and medicinal mushrooms will be incorporated. We will learn the craft of magical medicine making together, with roots, berries, and seeds, as we gather medicinal plants and fungi from the landscape and create a batch of herbal medicines. Folks will receive both new skills and plenty of recipes and remedies to take home.
Throughout this weekend immersion we will strengthen the craft of intuitive & ritual herbalism while learning how to pair these skills to make the most potent forms of herbal tinctures and glycerites (alcohol free extracts) with both fresh roots, seeds and berries. We will co-create medicinal herbal syrups, including the ever popular elderberry and create potent herbal topical applications as well. We will discuss how to adequately dry and store our herbs and remedies for the fall and winter seasons ahead.
Flower Essence Therapy Practitioner Training With Lupo Passero
This course offers over 125 hours of in-depth flower essence training with instructor Lupo Passero. We will meet bi-monthly for four full-day classes. Much of our time together will be spent learning how to properly, efficaciously and ethically use flower essences as a clinician. Students will spend additional hours working directly with clients, learning how to confidently use flower essence therapy in a professional setting. In addition we will spend time making a Flower Essences for retail sales.
Topics will include, the History of Flower Essences & in depth teachings of Dr. Edward Bach, Local Plant and Woodland Essences, Methods of Choosing Essences, The Doctrine of Signatures, Plant Spirit Healing, Vibrational Medicine Making, Chakra Essence Therapy, Making Flower Essences in the Field, Ethically Harvesting “at risk” Essences, Incorporating Essences into the Healing Practice, Supervised Clinical Consultations, Individual Consultations & Setting up a Flower Essence Practice. Students will be required to complete over 20 consultations and will be working directly with clients, learning how to confidently use flower essence therapy in a professional setting. A 125-hour Flower Essence Practitioner Certificate Awarded Upon Course Completion.

Is it time to take your herbal medicine studies to the next level? Would you like to learn how to begin to work with family, friends and community members to help them to find health and wellness through herbalism? Have you already studied herbalism and participated in courses earning over 300 hours of study? Then this course is for you! This nine-month immersion course is meant to help you take the steps to becoming an Herbal Practitioner. Skills you will learn include holistic approaches to disease, how to take a health history, traditional assessment skills, how to determine what herbal remedies to use, holistic counseling skills, and energetic medicines as well as a three-part training on traditional approaches to Ayurveda. Advanced herbal students will participate in a variety of experiences including, observing seasoned herbalists, round table learning exercises, putting your herbal education into practice and beginning to comfortably work with friends, family and community members.
Pre-requisites: Graduation from combined 300-hour herbal education programs and a Flower Essence Training* or ability to show equivalent training or mentorship is required. Students are expected to know basic anatomy and physiology, medicine making skills, flower essence therapy, and have compiled a materia medica portfolio.

Foundations of Herbalism Level 1 Herbal Certificate Training (Asheville)
Our most popular herbal training! Now offered in Asheville, NC. Our Foundations of Herbalism is a both a LIVE ONLINE and IN-PERSON learning experience, consisting of a combination of live online lectures paired with hands on, in person learning, consisting of over 50 in-depth lectures with monthly full day in-person herbal learning days and monthly plant identification walks, as well a beloved community herbalist celebration event and herbal graduation.
In 2024 class lectures will be held on Mondays from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm: March 18 and 25, April 8, May 6, June 10, July 8th, August 5, September 9, October 7. All classes will be taught live and also recorded, for you watch at your own pace, to review as needed and utilize for years to come.
Our scheduled full day in-person learning days will take place, with a variety of local teachers (see below) on Saturday’s from 10 am to 5 pm in our various outdoor herbal classrooms (all within the surrounding Asheville, NC area) on April 13, May 18, June 8, July 13, August 10, September 14 and October 12. This eight night intensive will be spent working with the astrological elements, modes, planets and signs as well as the flowers essences our beloved plant allies. As we honor the ancient dance of both earth and sky, we will be taking what we learn from the jungle and native plants and couple it with the time worn wisdom of the stars and the planets. Working directly with the beautiful tropical flora that surrounds the Caribe Sur we will build a deep and meaningful relationship to this long proven pairing. Additionally, we will be nourished well and learn local herbal and foodways with an amazing local Afro-Costa Rican herbalist!
Each participant will help create over a dozen Astro inspired Tropical Flower Essences to take home to use for years to come! This is a certificate program in Astro Herbalism and Tropical Flower Essences. All participants will be awarded a certificate of completion.
Lupo Passero is a Community Herbalist and Educator and the Director of Twin Star Herbal Education and Community Apothecary. She has been traveling and teaching in the Talamanca region of Costa Rica for a decade and brings with her 25 years of knowledge of building intimate relationships with, and deep understanding of the plants, the planets and the flower essences. The word solstice comes from the Latin sol stetit which literally means “sun standstill.“ Most likely this description came from the illusion caused by the suns position in the horizon. For six days around the time preceding and following the solstice the sun appears to rise and set in the same place. The sleeping earth is filled with magic and mystery. Days that have grown increasingly short, conclude with the celebration of Yule and the rebirth of the light. Along with Samhain, the winter solstice is one of the most widely celebrated of the ancient rituals and one of our favorites.

Witch *Crafting* Ritual Tools & Samhain Circle
The Wheel of the year turns once more, the veil thins as we approach the final harvest celebration and welcome the Witch’s New Year. We gather days before Samhain to craft botanically infused ritual tools for the season including: herbal incense cones, Hecate mullein torches, and carved spell candles. We will learn the importance and significance of a plethora of magical herbs, and how to incorporate into your ritual practices, crafts and daily life. Gather with your fellow withy folk to learn how and intentionally create beautiful ritual crafts. We end our afternoon of herbal learning and crafting with a Samhain ritual and celebration circle, delving into the spirit of the sabbath, lighting candles, and participating in ceremony for the new year!
Ritual Tools we will be crafting:
HECATE’S Torch/Mullein Candle! Some say that this folk tradition was used to keep witches away… some say that it was actually the green witch’s way! HECATE is the Greek goddess associated with witchcraft, magic, the Moon, doorways, and crossroads. Often depicted carrying a torch to remind of her connection with the night, in sculpture she has three faces for her role as the goddess of boundaries and the guardian of crossroads. For this craft, we call on Mullein: a beautiful medicinal herbal ally, encased in beeswax and adorned herbs and resins.
CARVED SPELL CANDLE! We will explore various ways candle magic may be utilized to support healing, manifestation and intentional magic. We will go over a brief history of candle magic, different ways to use candles alongside healing herbs, and different candle crafting including making simple candles, mullein torches, and magic candle carving. Candles, tools, magical botanicals, oils, and biodegradable glitter will be provided.
HERBAL INCENSE! Craft custom herbal incense with different magical and aromatic herbs, woods and resins. We will go over different ways to use and make herbal incense and be crafting custom herbal incense cones.
Warm up your magic and circle up!
All supplies provided. If you have small (up to 6-8”) dried mullein flower stalks and/or *special to you* aromatic herbs that you'd like to infuse in your crafts, please bring along.

Medicinal Mushroom Walk
Autumn is a magical time of year to meet the many magnificent mycelia that are indigenous to our area. Join us at Pond Mountain Natural Area in Kent, CT as local mushroom expert David Paton guides us on a walk to explore and identify medicinal mushrooms. David as been passionate about mycology for over 30 years and is happy to share his knowledge and expertise with the Twin Star community!

Deana is a Teacher and Practitioner of Cross-Cultural Energy Medicine & Contemporary Shamanism, a Reiki Master Teacher, Tarot reader and licensed massage therapist with over 25 years as a healing arts practitioner, and 20 years working and studying with indigenous healers and Shamans from various cultures, with a focus on the heart-centered earth-honoring traditions of the Andes. Everything she shares is with permission and respect. Deana currently supports empaths and healers as the humble teacher of great heroes, in growing their confidence, spiritual and healing gifts to be more of service to their families, clients and the earth. She also enjoys hiking with her partner, a healthy crystal and oracle/tarot deck obsession, and playing with her rescue pups Charley & Dinah.

Flower Essence Therapy Practitioner Training With Lupo Passero
This course offers over 125 hours of in-depth flower essence training with instructor Lupo Passero. We will meet bi-monthly for four full-day classes. Much of our time together will be spent learning how to properly, efficaciously and ethically use flower essences as a clinician. Students will spend additional hours working directly with clients, learning how to confidently use flower essence therapy in a professional setting. In addition we will spend time making a Flower Essences for retail sales.
Topics will include, the History of Flower Essences & in depth teachings of Dr. Edward Bach, Local Plant and Woodland Essences, Methods of Choosing Essences, The Doctrine of Signatures, Plant Spirit Healing, Vibrational Medicine Making, Chakra Essence Therapy, Making Flower Essences in the Field, Ethically Harvesting “at risk” Essences, Incorporating Essences into the Healing Practice, Supervised Clinical Consultations, Individual Consultations & Setting up a Flower Essence Practice. Students will be required to complete over 20 consultations and will be working directly with clients, learning how to confidently use flower essence therapy in a professional setting. A 125-hour Flower Essence Practitioner Certificate Awarded Upon Course Completion.

This course requires a prerequisite of THE ART OF FLOWER ESSENCE THERAPY. This class is available online and must be completed before beginning the practitioner training.

Della Medicina: Italian American Folk Medicine Weekend Immersion
Italian Folk Medicine, is referred to, in Italy as "Medicina Popolare”. You are invited to join us, deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains for a one-of-a-kind immersion into the history, folklore, and ancient traditions of Italian herbalists and witches. We will learn to how our Italian ancestors used plants every day, for not only for food and medicine but for ceremony, ritual, protection, dreaming and for strengthening familial relations. We will discuss a variety of the use of native medicinal and magical plants of Italy, many which are common to our area here in the Eastern United States. Lisa will share stories and mythologies from the heart of the Mediterranean, of the Sud Italian witches, witchcraft and divine oracles .
During this intimate weekend together we’ll discuss Italian folk medicine and how it is practiced today as well as the way that plants and Traditional Western Herbalism are linked to it. We’ll talk about Italian herbs, herbal preparations, and the way that plants are used culturally. Italian folk medicine includes not only practical treatments for physical ailments but also energetic and spiritual rituals, rites, and practices that emerged from the ancient animistic practices of the Mediterranean, pagan spirituality, and folk Catholicism.
This class will be a combination of discussion and hands on demonstrations.

Botanical Sun Prints: Plants & Cyanotypes - postponed to 10/1
Join us for ROUND TWO Of this fun Cyanotype workshop! We will go over basics, experiment with paper, and turn our focus to FABRIC! Each student will go home with several small paper and fabric projects and a CUSTOM CANVAS TOTE BAG!
Cyanotypes, also called blue prints, are a great introduction to alternative photographic processes. You'll learn to take a botanical specimen, such as a leaf, fern, or flower, and create photographic prints of it onto paper or fabric without the use of a traditional darkroom. You’ll learn to mix your own cyanotype chemistry and how to set up a system to continue this work at home. Students will create their own cyanotype prints and additional projects to bring home. No experience necessary. All materials will be provided, but participants may also bring their own pressed plants and flowers if they wanted to use them in their projects.

Join is for this fun filled annual summer series! Classes will meet weekly and will cover topics including: the wise woman tradition of healing, summer skin care, herbal support for stress, the medicinal uses of popular garden plants, wild weeds, kitchen remedies and much more. Since the dawn of our existence the feminine collective has been gathering together as daughters, sisters, mothers and as healers. Powerful stories have been shared, tears have been shed, spaces and hearts have been held, and many magical moments of healing, strength and love have occurred. It is in honor of this ancient tradition that the 13 Moons - A Women’s Healing Circle was created over a decade ago.
This cycle of sacred healing circles will take place the first Wednesday evening of each month. Together we will gather as women and healers. Each moon we will explore a variety of topics including: sacred healing, monthly self healing rituals and the wise woman tradition. We begin each sacred moon circle by calling in the directions, lighting candles, and introducing ourselves and a wish for the circle. We will dive into the monthly theme, sharing thoughts, ideas, experiences; reading poetry, & singing songs. We also create rituals for honoring ourselves and each other through the cycles and spirals of life.

Mushrooms are a joy! - not only for the nutrition, flavors, and medicine they offer us, but because they are so satisfying to find on our adventures. Join us to get to know some of the popular edible and medicinal mushrooms found in our little corner of the world here in the Litchfield hills. We’ll go over characteristics, benefits, identification, where and when to find them, and some recipes!
